Products and Brands
There are many different brands of pre-mixed Renders on the market today. From Rockcote, Dulux, Render System Australia and Super Cote only to name a few. But there can be misunderstandings between a “Product” and a “Brand”. A product is a finished project by a qualified contractor using the Brands as a guideline to produce the highest quality product possible. A brand is a supplier of material and the knowledge in the industry to guide the contractor in the right direction.

Skim Cote
Skim cote is two thin coats (no more than 4mm thick) of cement base brand that is floated free hand following the shape of the substrate weather being bricks, blocks or foam cladding (sand grain finish). Therefore if the substrate is not straight or has hollows or high points, this can be seen by the naked eye. The worse case scenarios if the substrate is northern southern and is subjective to the sun, the side light can highlight all the imperfections of the finished product. This product is not always the cheaper option, for it takes less knowledge and skill to produce this finish. When comparing quotes be sure to ask if it is a skim coat. You may end up paying more than its worth.

Screed Finish
Screed Finish is a one coat (from 8mm-10mm thick) of cement base brand (unless applied on blockwork and/or concrete) that is ruled (shaved back) off with a screed (straight edge) to achieve the flattest surface possible, leaving a fine sand grain finish. This is what we have a passion for, the traditional skill of solid plastering at its best.

Texture Finish
Texture Finish is a heavy duty acrylic based (20 times thicker than paint) product providing a protective & aesthetically pleasing finish for masonry and most building substrates. Texture can come in many finishes and colour. The bonus to this finish is that you do not have to paint it. Saving you the cost in hiring another contractor.

The Truth Behind Warranties
Brands can only give a manufactured and technical performance warranty on their brand and not on the standards or quality of skill or workmanship of the contractor. Some companies use this warranty as a selling point which is great, if the contractor is following the guidelines. But there are some that use this as a facade to cover the poor careless skill of product. We as qualified Solid Plasterers can guarantee a 5 year warranty on our Products (eg. Render Paint Package) as well as a 10 year warranty from our friends the brands (Rockcote).
